IL SENTIERO DELLE TRE VALLATE (THE TRAIL OF THE THREE VALLEYS)
Il sentiero delle tre vallate (the trail of the three valleys) coincides with the perimeter of the entire hiking circuit of the Alto Rubicone. It touches the three valleys of the Rubicone, the Uso and the Savio rivers. The path is not particularly difficult but very long: 73.0 km with an altitude of 2965 m. Naturally it will require multiple days to complete, with the possibility of spending the night in any of the numerous accommodation places in the area. The total time required to complete the circuit is about 27 hours.
The departure is in Sogliano al Rubicone in via XX Settembre, from the ancient walls of the Malatesta castle: a beautiful terrace towards San Marino, the Uso valley and Montefeltro. Initially walk down to the sports field of Sogliano al Rubicone (Path 155) up to the Uso river that you have to follow for a long stretch, until you turn left towards Massamanente. For a few kilometers walk inside the SIC area (Site of Community Interest) of Montetiffi Alto Uso along a stretch of the Path of San Vicinio (Path 096). From this ridge you can admire both the Marecchia and the Uso valleys up to the Uso river sources beneath Mount Perticara in front of the locality Piè di Monte.Everybody, including Baz Luhrmann, thinks you should floss more, but whether you're using dental floss, dental tape, or interdental brushes it's an awkward, uncomfortable and downright boring process. This is where the electric flosser for braces , or oral irrigator if you prefer, comes in. Now I wouldn't go as far as to say ...
Leaving behind Mont Aquilone take the path no. 123 towards Romagnano along a stretch of the “Grande Ippovia dell’Appenino dell’Emilia Romagna” (Great bridle path of Emilia Romagna Appenine). From the valley of the Savio climb gradually towards Montepetra Alta before plunging after a few kilometers in the beautiful natural oasis of Rontagnano (Path 111a and 111f). Crossing a large wood characterized by the presence of chestnuts, beeches, black locust trees and hornbeams you reach Montegelli from which a long and gradual descent (Path 111) leads to Bivio Montegelli.
This area is characterized by the presence of large gullies: geomorphological formations of erosion produced by the leaching of water in clay soils with poor vegetation cover.
With path no. 115 you leave the Savio valley walking along the Ansa creek and enter in the Rubicone valley walking along the Costa Passo dei Meloni. Once at Mount Farneto the itinerary concludes with the final climb leading to Sogliano al Rubicone.

Start from the old town center of Sogliano al Rubicone, but first we recommend a visit to the "Museo Leonardo da Vinci e la Romagna" (the Leonardo da Vinci and the Romagna museum), dedicated to the journey of Leonardo in Romagna in 1502 following Cesare Borgia.Best best cordless waterpik flosser is very useful for dental health . It is also portable waterpik. You can carry it easily . Still too many people searching it . .
Il cammino di Leonardo has a length of 7.2 km and is not particularly difficult. The total journey time is about 2 h 30. You initially walk towards the town sports field (campo sportivo comunale) travelling along the path no. 155 direct to the acqueduct and to the Uso river. A natural curtain of reeds leads to a forest characterized by the presence of black pines, old-growth oaks, elderberry trees and various brambles of blackberries. You arrive after a little to the village of Ponte Uso. After walking along the riverbed for a stretch you face an ascent quite challenging, although brief that goes direct to the Park S. Donato di Vignola. In the park there are two "concavities", made according to Leonardo's drawings: they are conical hollows dug out in the ground which historically were used by shepherds to amplify the horns sounds, so they were able to communicate over great distances. Inside the park you find the Temple of San Donato, a small oratorio that today is dedicated to peace and with a sundial. After leaving the park you reach the nearby Church of Vignola: close to a slope the centuries-old durmast oak stands out, 18 m high and with a circumference trunk of 3.4 meters. The last stop before arriving in Sogliano is at the impressive monument of the Uomo Vitruviano (the Vitruvian Man), built based on Leonardo da Vinci's drawings.

This itinerary has a length of 10 km and has an altitude of 338 m; it can be covered easily in 3 h 30 min. Start from the parking lot opposite the Church of San Paolo all'Uso. The first part of the journey, for about 4 km along the 155g, is all light uphill. The route initially runs along the Fosso Barattoni creek, then it follows a short section of the paved road until, near the place Cà di Curto, plunges again in the woods. You reach a roundabout at the center of which you find the Vitruvian Man, a great product built following Leonardo da Vinci's drawings. Following the road to the village Vignola, you see, near the church, a beautiful century-old durmast oak, 18 m high and with a trunk circumference of 3.4 meters.
A short distance away you find the Park S. Donato di Vignola, which offers a nature trail. Then you find the Temple of San Donato, a small oratorio dedicated to peace, and two "concavities", made according to Leonardo's drawings: they are conical hollows dug out in the ground which historically were used by shepherds to amplify the horns sounds, allowing them to communicate over great distances. At the base of the concavities there is a mechanism by which you can activate the acoustic propagation of sound. From the park go down to the Uso river and walking along it you return to the starting point.

This route, whose length is 11 km, is pretty challenging due to its great climb, equal to 633 meters. The approximate walking time is 4 hours. Start from the old town center of Sogliano al Rubicone, but first we recommend to visit some of the interesting permanent exhibitions at the Palazzo della Cultura (the Cultural Palace): the “Mostra permanente del disco e della registrazione musicale” (The permanent exhibition of records and music recordings), the “Collezione di Arte Povera” (the Poor Art collection) , the "Collezione Veggiani" (the Veggiani Collection), the "Museo Leonardo da Vinci e la Romagna" (the Leonardo da Vinci and the Romagna museum), the "Museo della Linea Christa", (the Line Christa Museum). Within the old town boundaries, you can also book a visit to the Museo delle miniere (the Museum of the mines), the typical “fosse del formaggio di Sogliano DOP” (the cheese pits of Sogliano PDO) and the ancient ice-house.
We recommend to take the path no. 115a direct to Curto/Strigara to travel clockwise up to the Rubicone sources. A roundabout outside the village of Sogliano al Rubicone houses the Uomo Vitruviano (the Vitruvian Man), created on a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci. It is a very famous representation of the ideal proportions of the human body and it demonstrates how it can be harmoniously inscribed into two “perfect” figures: the circle and the square. This Leonardo's drawing was inspired by one passage of the architect Vitruvius (I cent. BC).
From here begins a gradual climb up to Curto. Once outside this village, you see on your right, two deviations from the main road, which can significantly shorten the path, at the cost of giving up on the beautiful panoramic views of the Passo dei Meloni. Passing through the first deviation, in particular, you can see the entrance of the ancient Miniera di carbone del Capannaccio (the Coal Mine of Capannaccio) opened from 1790 to 1942. By remaining instead on the longer route you reach the sources of the Rubicone river, a great spot to have a break.
Another perfect place to stop is the nearby town of Strigara, where there are still the ruins of the ancient Rocca malatestiana (the Malatesta fortress). Taking from here the 115b path, you reach the Passo dei Meloni, from which the view extends from the Apennines to the Adriatic Coast. Travelers, following this known ridge, come down to the valley, walking along a short stretch of the Rubicone river on the 115c path and reach Sogliano al Rubicone through the path no. 115.

Start from the Chiesa del Farneto (the Farneto Church), an ancient oratorio dedicated to Our Lady, built in 1574 with the function of "resting place" for travelers and pilgrims. The Madonna del Farneto was venerated by sailors, who navigating the Adriatic Sea, caught by a sudden storm, turned to the familiar shape of Mount Farneto (about 500 m), for orientation, requesting protection for safe return to the port. Near the church, standing for more than two centuries, is the Quercia del Farneto (the Farneto Oak), a precious monumental tree. Reaching 22 m in height with a base circumference of 3 m and represents, together with a group of other old-growth oaks (or farnie, hence the name "Farneto") the residual limb of a forest that was once widespread.
The path, whose total length is 9.1 km and with an altitude of 480 m, is completed on foot in three hours. Taking the counterclockwise route walk along the Mount Farneto and then turn in the direction of Strigara. Shortly after departure a detour on the 115b path allows, possibly, to shorten the main route reducing the travel time. But it is recommended to continue on the main path, which offers beautiful panoramic views. The area is characterized by numerous gullies, peculiar geomorphological erosion formations produced by run-off waters. The 115 path leads to the Urgon sources, an ideal place for a stopover. From here, turn left towards Bagnolo and return to the starting point walking down the 115b, 115c and 115 paths.

The territory crossed by this route is characterized by the presence of numerous gullies, peculiar geomorphological erosion formations produced by run-off waters in clay soils with poor vegetation cover. The trail is quite long and challenging (14,8 km with an altitude of 766 m) but it is also very beautiful and full of panoramic viewpoints. Journey time planned: 5 hours on foot. Departure from the Church of Santa Maria Riopetra, which from 1789 stands on the local barren gullies. The church houses a splendid organ dating back to the eighteenth century. The adjacent rectory houses the Museo Don Onofri (the Don Onofri Museum), dedicated to Msgr. Teodoro Onofri, conductor and composer. Taking the path counterclockwise, after a short stretch of paved road, the 111e path runs through an old-time landscape, characterized by wide slopes covered by larches, beeches, chestnuts and hornbeams. In this area at twilight it is easy to find some roe deers. After passing the town Monteboso you reach Cà Dell'Erre, where you can see three big centuries-old protected oaks (Quercus petrae), the highest of which is nearly 30 meters. The path leads near Montegelli, known as the "village of the ancient flavours": here they produce delicious typical food, such as savor, saba and jams; moreover as the territory is unspoiled they gather medicinal herbs. In Montegelli the elegant Church of Santo Stefano in Murulo and the “Casa dei ricordi” (the House of Memories), a small exhibition of objects from the past, are worthy of seeing. The path then leads to Strigara, where there are the ruins of an ancient Malatesta castle. It's time to walk down the spectacular "Passo dei Meloni," a long snow-white ridge at day, when it is sunlit and almost blue at night in the moonlight. From here the view stretches from the Apennines to the Adriatic Coast. The Passo dei Meloni leads, finally, to Santa Maria Riopetra through the trails no. 115 and no.111e.

The total route length is 12.8 km with an altitude of 429 meters; the estimated journey time is 4 hours. The landscape has particular characteristics, with barren gullies and extended lands devoted to pasture. In fact in this area there are several farms engaged in the breeding of cattle, pigs and sheep following non-intensive methods, producing high quality salami and cheeses. Among wide slopes covered by larches, beeches, chestnuts and hornbeams at twilight it is easy to find some roe deers.
The departure is from Piazza Pransani in Bivio Montegelli, but for those coming from Sogliano al Rubicone it is better to leave from Santa Maria Riopetra. Initially walk along the Savio river south (trail no. 111), going up to Monte Caibana, then bend north, reaching the square of S. Maria Riopetra. Inside the church of the village there is a splendid organ of the eighteenth century. The adjacent rectory houses the Museo Don Onofri (the Don Onofri Museum), dedicated to Msgr. Teodoro Onofri (1909-1987), native of that place, he was a composer, a conductor, an educator and a writer. The path starts again on the trail no. 111e going on along the Ansa creek. From this point on your left large gullies are visible, they are geomorphological formations of erosion produced by run-off water in clay soils with poor vegetation cover. Before you reach again the E45 street and Bivio Montegelli walking down the path no. 115, you intersect, in the locality of Cà Pedrizzo, a high southern Ash (Fraxinus angustifolia) of 80 years: it has a height of 16 m and a foliage of 20 m diameter.

Il sentiero del Monte di Meleto (the Trail of Mount Meleto) extends for a length of 13 km and has an altitude of 588 meters; approximate walking time: 5 h on foot. Departure from the locality Vernano, where the ancient church of San Benedetto is located, a religious monument dating from the twelfth century. Close to the church stand out two high oaks (Quercus pubescens), monumental works of nature. The highest is 17 meters with a trunk circumference of 3.9 meters. In Sogliano oak trees are often associated with churches; this is surely an expression of a model and not the result of some randomness. The tree, in fact, thanks to its shape, represents the means of communication between three worlds: the fathomless depths pierced by its roots, the surface of the earth and the endless sky with its constellations, towards which it reaches out with its branches.
From Vernano you move towards the locality Meleto (Apple Orchard) taking the Path no. 111 and 111c, through a big forest, characterized by the presence of chestnuts, beeches, hornbeams and locust trees. Mount Meleto is one of the highest hills of Sogliano territory (600 m); there rise up an ancient oratory dedicated to Santa Maria and one of the few monuments dedicated to the memory of German soldiers. Leaving behind Mount Meleto you cross a large beech forest (Fagus sylvatica) from which the Fosso di Villa Uso river, a tributary of the Savio river, has its sources.
Walking along the paths 111a and 111 you cross the Rio Montegelli, you pass on a beautiful coastline that offers gorgeous views of the Uso valley and you enter into the naturalistic oasis of Montetiffi, until you reach Vernano.

Il sentiero del Barbotto (the trail of the Barbotto), almost completely surrounded by nature, runs for 12.8 km in total; its altitude is 456 meters and the journey time is 5 hours on foot. Start from the center of Rontagnano, a village settled on the top of a hill between the valley of the Uso and of the Savio river. Once here stood the Malatesta castle (XII century), of which some ruins still remain. The tower of the fortress was transformed in the XVIII century into a bell tower. The nearby church of San Biagio has some interesting furnishings, including a wooden kneeler of the XV century, and an eighteenth-century organ.
Travelling the route counterclockwise, you immerse in the Naturalistic Oasis of Rontagnano. You find soon a detour that leads to a pleasant place where you can admire, in a natural basin made of stone, some Tritons specimens (Triturus carnifex): they are amphibians similar to salamanders that live in still waters characterized by the absence of fish and pollution. Back on the main path, you reach after about half an hour another deviation (Path 111d) that can eventually halve the journey. Continuing on the original route (Path 111a) you face the not difficult ascent of Mount Spelano. It is covered by a beautiful forest and once it was a frequent destination for excursions by the local population. On the top the war memorial cross, approximately 5 meters heigh, is clearly visible. After Mount Spelano you arrive to the location Barbotto, name known to cyclists for the difficult climb that arrives there from Mercato Saraceno, characterized by an altitude of 365 meters and its last km with slopes up to 18%. In the locality Barbotto there is a monument dedicated to the famous cyclist and unforgotten champion Marco Pantani. Taking the Path 111, that leads to Cà Domenichino, for a long stretch you walk along the beautiful natural oasis of Tornano. At Cà Domenichino you turn left along the 111c path reaching the summit of Mount Meleto, one of the highest hills of Sogliano territory (600 m). Here there is an ancient oratory dedicated to Santa Maria. After passing the village of Biancolino you are back to the starting point.

The itinerary measures 7.1 km and has an altitude of 381 meters; you can travel it easily in 3 h 15 min. It begins at Montepetra Alta, after leaving the car in the big parking lot located near the famous "Sassoni di Montepetra": large sedimentary rocks composed of sand, gravel, remains of animal and vegetable organisms. Geologists believe that their formation is very ancient, dating back to several million years ago. Inside the "Sassoni" there are big fossil shells that are of great interest for tourists and researchers.
Montepetra is a pleasant place that offers wonderful views; despite being out of the main tourist routes, it is a favorite destination for cyclists looking for enchanting natural landscapes. On top of the ridge, the village preserves traces of the walls of the ancient castle built in the twelfth century; there are still present wells and tanks dug into the rock once used for water and food conservation. The church of San Lorenzo, dating back to the fifteenth century, houses two altarpieces by Nicola Versari dated 1658 and a valuable baptismal font of 1495, a jewel of Renaissance sculpture.
The circuit is pleasant and does not have particularly challenging slopes. After leaving Montepetra Alta take the way counterclockwise (the 123 path) and descend towards the Savio river, crossing a small wood. Once in the valley take the 123a trail leading back to the starting point following a route that is at times suggestive. At the point where the trail leaves the road to turn back towards Montepetra Alta, you can see on your right the restored “lavatoio” (washouse) of Montepetra, a "place of memory", a meeting point of the past. Currently cyclists stop here to find refreshment.

Il Sentiero del Nocciolo centenario (The Trail of the Centenary Hazelnut Tree) is one of the most evocative itineraries of the Sogliano hiking circuit. The route is 6.1 km with an altitude of 262 meters and a 3-hour walk. You walk on the preapennine hills on the borders of the Montefeltro territory. The departure is from the square of Savignano di Rigo, located near the church of San Matteo. Head initially towards the sports field at which you turn left on a short climb that leads to the cemetery of Savignano di Rigo (Path 123). Here you can visit the grave of Decio Raggi, first Gold Medal of Military Valour in World War I. In the cemetery rests also Gregory Buda, nephew of Decio Raggi, perished heroically during World War II. The Museo della Linea Christa (The Line Christa Museum) of Sogliano collects various artifacts that illustrate their lives.
The route (Path 123c) then touches the village of Aia Bella, where there is the childhood home of Decio Raggi. Beside the house there is a centuries-old hazelnut tree (Corylus colurna or Hazel of Constantinople) that is 25,30 m high and with a trunk circumference of 3.62 m. Present knowledge recognizes it among the trees of this species officially registered, the tallest hazelnut tree of the world. The width of the foliage and the trunk circumference show that the tree is also very old, certainly one of the oldest in the world among all the known specimens of Corylus colurna. It is currently in good health.
Continuing on the path visit the little church of Lucignano, next to which we point out the presence of another unique tree, a tall and interesting century-old holly tree with an extremely wide trunk circumference. The route continues on the 123 path for a stretch of road that is one of the southernmost points of the municipality of Sogliano al Rubicone. At the end of the climb which precedes the return to the village of Savignano di Rigo you touch the highest point of Sogliano territory: Poggio Ciuffa (615 m).

Il Sentiero delle Teglie di Montetiffi (The Trail of Montetiffi pans) represents a pretty demanding challenge, with its 17.9 km in length and 734 meters in altitude; the expected travel time on foot is about 7.50 hours. The territory offers in return pleasant views and a large biodiversity: the eastern part of the route is part of the SIC (Site of Community Interest) Montetiffi Alto Uso, while the entire western part is immersed in the naturalistic Oasis of Tornano. Here flora and fauna are remarkable. The most common mammals are deers, wild boars, foxes, wolves, hares, badgers and porcupines. Among the tree species we report oaks, flowering ashes, junipers, holm oaks, elms up to the small wild orchids and the rare Aristolochia rotunda, nurse plant of the Zerynthia Cassandra butterfly. You start from the Celletta (little cell) of Montetiffi taking the 115i path towards Ponte Rosso. Passing this location at the farm house "La Rocca" leave the 115h path and take the 111b heading towards the small deconsecrated cemetery of Pietra dell'Uso, that nowadays is a silkworm farm. The cemetery is worthy of stopping even if the trail turns shortly before, leading to the church of Pietra dell'Uso, sheltered on a sharp cliff, and now fallen into disuse. The path crosses an almost uninhabited area characterized by large gullies that decrease towards the Uso Valley. In the next village, Vernano, you see the ancient church of San Benedetto, a religious monument dating from the twelfth century. The church is guarded by two giant centuries-old oaks (Quercus pubescens), monumental works of nature. The tallest is 17 meters in height with a trunk circumference of 3.9 meters.
Continuing on the 111 path pass from Ca' Poggio, where, a few hundred meters away, you can see the last remaining company that produces the pans for cooking piadina, only using the ancient traditional methods.
After passing Ca' Domenichino walk along the naturalistic Oasis of Tornano and take the 015 path towards Montetiffi. On the Uso creek, clearly standing out, is the calcareous cliff of the Archetta and the summit of Montetiffi cliff. On the cliff rises the thousand-year old abbey of San Leonardo, built by the inhabitants of Montetiffi during the eleventh century and donated to the Benedictine monks. It is one of the most important Romanesque monuments in Emilia-Romagna; with frescoes of the fourteenth century, a baptismal font of the seventeenth century and inscriptions of the fourteenth century. A short distance away you can visit, on reservation, the “Museo Agostino Venanzio Reali- Arte e Poesia" (the Agostino Venanzio Reali Museum- Art and Poetry), which houses the works of Mr. Reali, biblical scholar, painter, poet and sculptor.

This is a short route (4,4 km, altitude 306 m) but very interesting. You can complete it in 2 h 30 min on foot. The departure is from the pleasant village of Montetiffi, located inside a protected naturalistic area that extends for about 1400 hectares, characterized by the presence of oaks, flowering ashes, junipers, holms and field elms. Montetiffi is known to be the town of pan manufacture, an art handed down from many generations. On the summit of a cliff rises up the thousand-year old abbey of San Leonardo, built by the inhabitants of Montetiffi during the eleventh century and donated to the Benedictine monks. It is one of the most important Romanesque monuments in Emilia-Romagna with frescoes of the fourteenth century, a baptismal font of the seventeenth century and inscriptions of the fourteenth century. This unique "artist of the faith" rests in the small cemetery of Montetiffi, the start of our hiking trail. The first part is downhill; after passing the church of the Cella continue towards the Uso river. The path includes the crossing of some easy fords. Once you arrive to the valley, the climb begins. In this area, if you are lucky, from mid-March to the end of May you can observe specimens of Zerynthia Cassandra, a rather rare butterfly whose nurse-plant (the Aristolochia) is present in this naturalistic area. The ideal place for a break is that of the Ponte Romanico (the Romanesque Bridge), which is one of the most fascinating points on the route. The rounded arch bridge, built around 1000 A.D., was once an important link between Romagna and Montefeltro, also used for the gunpowder, tobacco, cognac and mistrà (anis liqueur) smuggling. Next to the bridge there are the ruins of the ancient Mulino Tornani (Tornani Mill). Here the river offers angles of rare beauty, characterized by the presence of little drops and falls and the so-called "Marmitte dei Giganti", impressive gorges formed over the centuries by the abrasive action of pebbles and that give to the landscape a “lunar” aspect. The ascent to Montetiffi is through the “Via della Rupe” (the Street of the cliff), an ancient path dug into the rock, steep and difficult, once used by the women of the village to collect water or to go to the river for the washing of clothes.

Il Sentiero della Massa circles the village of Massamanente, starting from the farm house "La Rocca" in the locality Ponte Rosso. The length of the entire path is 12.4 km on foot in about 5 h, but for those who do not have all this time there is the possibility of a central shortcut which basically halves the journey.
You climb initially the 115 path towards Massa Bagni where you can see a votive little cell dedicated to S. Cristofaro.
The journey continues towards the town La Torre from where you can admire a beautiful view over the Marecchia river valley up to the locality La Serra.
From here turn right on the 15 path walking down a part that is in common with the San Vicinio trail up to the Ponte Romanico (the Romanesque bridge), one of the most attractive points of the path. This is the perfect place for a break and, in summer, for a refreshing bath. The rounded arch bridge, built around 1000 A.D., was once an important link between Romagna and Montefeltro, also used for the gunpowder, tobacco, cognac and mistrà (anis liqueur)smuggling. Next to the bridge there are the ruins of the ancient Mulino Tornani (Tornani Mill). Here the river preserves angles of rare beauty, characterized by the presence of jumps and little falls and the so-called "Marmitte dei Giganti", impressive gorges formed over the centuries by the abrasive action of pebbles and that give to the landscape a “lunar” aspect.
The pebbles dragged downstream by the Rio Camara river were used for the realization of pans, mixing their dust with that of two other kinds of stone.
This area is part of the Oasi naturalistica di Montetiffi (the naturalistic Oasis of Montetiffi), "Site of Community Interest" of 1,400 hectares which houses a remarkable fauna and flora diversity and presents morphological and geological peculiarities. From mid-March to the end of May, for example, you can observe specimens of Zerynthia Cassandra, a rather rare butterfly whose nurse-plant (the Aristolochia) is present in this naturalistic area.
After leaving the 015 path take the 115ln path and then the 115h that run along the Rio Camara riverbed, the right branch of the Uso river, up to Ponte Rosso and back to the starting point.

This is a rather long itinerary characterized by some challenging ups and downs; 16.5 km in length and 767 meters in altitude for a walking time estimated at about 6 h and 15 min.
Departure from Piazza Castello Strigara where, until the eighteenth century, the ancient Malatesta castle of Strigara raised up. The place was the scene of three bloody battles in the years 1312, 1358 and 1446, because of the strategic location of the castle, which dominated the valleys of the Rubicon, the Uso and the Savio.
Taking the path no. 115a you come down to the Rubicone sources up to the locality of Curto. From here turn right and you walk a gradual descent on the path no. 115g up to the Church of San Paolo all'Uso, which houses inside a beautiful wooden crucifix, work of the Sogliano artist padre Venanzio Reali.
From here the path no.115 walks along the bed of the Uso river towards the mountain and then it goes direct to the farm house "La Rocca", on the path no. 111b towards the ruined but still fascinating Church of Pietra all'Uso, built on a small cliff. You enter into the SIC (Site of Community Interest) of Montetiffi Alto Uso that offers a remarkable diversity of flora and fauna. The most common mammals are roe deers, wild boars, foxes, wolves, hares, badgers and porcupines; among the tree species we report oaks, flowering ashes, junipers, holm oaks and elms. The trail continues on a beautiful ridge that offers splendid views over the Uso valley (path no. 111) and then it gets back on the path no. 115a direct to Strigara.

Start from the center of Rontagnano, a village at the top of a hill between the Uso and the Savio valley. Once here stood the Malatesta castle (XII century), of which some ruins still remain. The tower of the fortress was transformed in the eighteenth century into a bell tower. The nearby church of San Biagio houses some interesting furnishings, including a wooden kneeler of the fifteenth century, and an eighteenth-century organ. From Rontagnano walk on the 111a path towards the small village cemetery and at the next crossroad turn left taking the 111f path, reaching soon a shortcut that eventually allows you to shorten the journey. The main trail leads to Campaolo, a village known for the discovery, by a farmer, of one of the largest amber in Europe. This precious amber ovoid of 625 grams is preserved inside the Palazzo della Cultura (the Palace of Culture) in Sogliano al Rubicone.
